While language essentially remains a medium to interact, forcing it is non-ethical. We have also seen numerous examples where forcing non marathi people to speak Marathi is seen. Its just not about Marathi, people have become so much divisive that if you dont know the local language, you are seen as a traitor.. I have felt this in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengal.. people need to understand that work takes us across country and learning every language is not practically possible.

It's not about Marathi or Hindi or any other language for that matter. Forcing any citizen of India to speak in a particular language and not their mother tongue is against if fundamental rights. Let's stop making this about Marathi or Hindi. This TTE is basically not suited to live in a democratic and diverse country like India. India being a diverse country, all regional languages should be respected. Every state government is coming up with upholding their regional language and making it compulsory for students to learn in that state and I think there is nothing wrong with it. But forcing any individual to not speak in their own mother tongue like in this incident is just not acceptable. This TTE has misused his power against the fundamental rights of this couple. He should NOT be working in any government office anywhere in India!!!

This kind of rude behaviour is common in TN where the railway TC are all from north. Instead of asking the passengers to speak in Hindi the TC should be sensitised and taught to speak in local language if they have to work in non Hindi state!

I'm all for learning other languages including Hindi and the local language where you stay. But Hindi can not be our national language. Period. Simply because every citizen values his own mother tongue more than anything else!
