If you're "out of state" you dont get the state taxpayer's assistance. You're not paying "double." You're paying (closer) to the cost of what it actually takes to educate you. And ALL of them (includjng so called private) get aided by FEDERAL funds (taxpayer) in addition to STATE taxpayer funds.

It’s a private institution, they will do what is best for their institution. And it’s not like they don’t take Americans, they do. But at the end of the day they need funding and international students who are worthy of the Harvard name and have money will be accepted because the tuition for international students is almost double. While I agree, they do get a lot of money from the government, they can’t just stop accepting international students, cause they lose a lot of revenue there as well.

You guys forget smth trump also forgot— the brightest international students go to Harvard/ American schools. These people become important figures of influence that can potentially favor America in the future in terms of policy (eg: Singapore current president is a Harvard graduate)
I mean, would you rather rich kid legacy admission instead??
And if it comes the time where the international community starts to not prioritize on choosing American education for their best (they can receive scholarships from their own governments to go study overseas, but they have to be top % of the country), you can bet the next brightest scientists and world leaders will be going elsewhere, like China or Europe, and taking their connections and family business there.

I would say the majority come to learn and are productive members of society, but then you also have those that come to the US on student visas who are activist, and just want to cause disruption.
Unfortunately it's difficult to know which is which because of course they're not going to be truthful on their application.

可惜啊，誰是誰非太難分了，畢竟他們申請(qǐng)的時(shí)候嘴里哪有實(shí)話啊。
